So I am going to give you a skill today that will make a huge difference in every area of your life.
And if you are not practicing it right now - you are leaving a lot on the table. You are leaving money, opportunity, happiness, growth, relationships, health...all left on the table if you aren't playing this simple game.
I learned about this game from an awesome mentor of mine - Kim Fiske. Here's how it goes:
We do NOT get the things we think we can't have.
Why would we? We don't think we can have them.
For instance, there are people out there with an eating disorder, that will never find freedom, because they think they can't have it. They believe that this is the way it is for the rest of their life. So they will never find the solution, because they don't look for a solution. In fact, if they did find the solution, they wouldn't see it, because your mind blocks out anything that doesn't support what it already believes.
It's called the reticular activating system.
A really common phrase that I hear from my clients is "I knew there had to be a way."
You hear that? They thought they COULD have freedom. They didn't know how, but they kept LOOKING because they BELIEVED there must be a way. So when they found it, they could recognize it.
That's how your brain works. And knowing that, you can use that to your advantage so you stop leaving so many good things on the table. As soon as you decide you can't do something, your brain stops looking for ways. It's conserves it's energy. why would it try to find a way to do what it can't do?
But what happens if you decide you WILL do something? What does your brain do?
It will keep working. It will work through the night to find you the way you CAN do what you told your brain you WILL do.
Have you ever wondered about the answer to something, and like 2 days later the answer pops into your head at 2am? That's because your brain KEPT WORKING!
My friend just the other day "randomly" texted me the word "decanter". Why? Because 2 days earlier we were trying to figure out "what is that thing called?"
So what happens when you pair knowing how your brain works to getting what you want? You get what you want!
And here is how you play the game.
- Take something you think you can't have. There is "no way" you can have/do/be it.
- And "just for fun" decide you WILL do that thing. You ARE going to do it. You KNOW it will happen.
- Ask yourself "WHAT IF I did?" What if I knew it would happen? How would that play out? What would need to be in place?
- And then all of the sudden, your resting brain, is in action. And it will give you ideas that would have NEVER come into your mind if you hadn't played this game.

I talked to a woman who said: "I can't come because the person who usually watches my kids are out of town." Her brain stopped there and she she "knew" she couldn't come. But she WANTED to come. So we played the "What if?" game. What if you KNEW you were coming? Her brain instantly gave her an idea "Oh then this person would need to watch my kids." And guess what? Now she CAN come!
It's usually as simple as the first couple ideas that your brain gives you that it was hiding before.
This works with financial things too.
I had a woman I talked to the other day who had struggled with food for over 20 years. She wanted me to coach her, but she was really struggling financially. So she said "I can't do the program, I don't have any money." Then we played the "What if?" game. What if she knew she was going to fix her food struggles. She said "I would have to put it on a credit card. And I never use credit cards." But her brain gave her an idea that wouldn't have come to her because she "never" does those things. So she paid with her freedom with a credit card and did something else she had never done: ended her eating disorder after 20 years.
Pick something that you want that you think you can't have. Then play the "What if" game. It doesn't mean you have to do anything. But if you don't play, you won't even have the option to have what you want. See what your brain comes up with. Write the list of the possibilities that you didn't have before.
I have seen people take trips with "no money" I have seen people build a business with "no time" I have seen people find amazing partners with "no good people" - all because they played the "what if?" game.
